{"id":271,"date":"2017-12-23T14:18:04","date_gmt":"2017-12-23T14:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/?page_id=271"},"modified":"2021-07-15T15:11:37","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T15:11:37","slug":"mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Mynydd Llangorse and Mynydd Troed 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>GW\/SW-009 &amp; GW\/SW-015-\u00a0Brocken spectre<\/h2>\n<p>Another early start aiming to collect two of the lower summits today but with the winter bonus on each they should be worth 12 points between them.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/BB-MWI-WM11416_2017-12-22_133227_0280000.pdf\">weather forecast<\/a>\u00a0was a bit mixed, it would be warm at least.\u00a0 The sky was overcast until after I crossed the bridge into Wales whereupon it started to clear as the sun rose.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_270\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-270\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017\/img_4928-300x169\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1358\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1358\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4928-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Parking at the col<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Approaching the parking spot (SO 160 283) from the A479, as noted by others, there is a gate across the road halfway up the Cwm Sorgwm valley.\u00a0 It is shown on the 1:50000 maps but not on the 1:25000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Mynydd Troed<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_271\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-271\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017\/img_4937-300x169-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1359\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1359\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4937-300x169-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mynydd Troed from the car park (taken later in the day)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The climb up\u00a0Mynydd Troed starts easily enough, the path is very muddy and slippery until you get beyond the range of the dog walkers.\u00a0 Once you get nearer the top it gets very steep.\u00a0 There are steps cut into the mud but in wetter weather these are better ignored.\u00a0 Once you get up to about 530m there is a much easier path which winds it\u2019s way up to the summit plateau.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_272\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-272\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017\/img_4935-768x432\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1360\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4935-768x432-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4935-768x432-1.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4935-768x432-1-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4935-768x432-1-685x385.jpg 685w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-272\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Obligatory Mynydd Troed trig point photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Having been in cloud for most of the climb, the summit was similarly shrouded. I set up the station next to the trig point and soon made xxx contacts on 2m FM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/mynydd-llangorse-and-mynydd-troed-2017\/img_4931-300x169\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1361\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1361\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4931-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>Slowly the clouds dropped into the valley and the summits cleared. I was rewarded with one of those moments that make all the hard work worth it.
