{"id":283,"date":"2018-01-07T14:56:24","date_gmt":"2018-01-07T14:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/?page_id=283"},"modified":"2021-07-15T14:44:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T14:44:07","slug":"fan-brycheiniog-2018","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Fan Brycheiniog 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>GW\/SW-003 \u2013 Via Fan Hir<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_345\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-345\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/img_4992-300x169\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1322\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1322\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4992-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunny start at Tawe Bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sunday promised to be a better day weather wise.\u00a0 The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/BB-MWI-WM11431_2018-01-06_143136_8950000.pdf\">forecast<\/a>\u00a0was for a clear day but very windy.\u00a0 We planned to start this time from the layby at Tawe Bridge which was a bit closer than the last time.<\/p>\n<p>The route onto the access land via Ty Henry needs to be carefully navigated as the land owner at Ty Henry is known to object if you don\u2019t follow the proper permitted path.\u00a0 See the tracklog below for the correct route.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ADyMQdD\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/img_5a535d6a4cd64-205x300\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1326\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1326\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5a535d6a4cd64-205x300-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once past Ty Henry pass to the right of the cattle pens and then the path up onto Fan Hir is very clear if rather steep.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the initial ascent pass by the small mound of Allt Fach and follow the fairly obvious path North West.\u00a0 This path can get very boggy in the summer but today it was frozen solid, more pleasant to walk on but rather slippy in places.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_349\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-349\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/img_5004-300x169\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1327\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1327\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5004-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pen Y Fan in the distance with Fan Nedd in the midground<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On a clear day the views off to the North East are fabulous but with the wind in our faces it was a long hard trek up to the top.\u00a0 You will be able to see Pen y Fan and Corn Du in the distance and Fan Nedd in the mid ground.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/img_4998-300x169\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1328\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1328\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_4998-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>With the wind blowing strongly in from the North West we were treated to the sight of the snow blowing up the face of Fan Hir into the sunlight creating a rainbow over the edge.<\/p>\n<p>The final ascent up onto the top of Fan Brycheiniog is a short steep section of path that was heavily iced over.\u00a0 In this weather it is easier to avoid the path and climb the steep grassy bank alongside.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yTMSxUZ\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/index.php\/sota-summits-on-the-air\/welsh-summits\/fan-brycheiniog-2018\/img_5a53852958e49\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1329\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1329\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5a53852958e49.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"719\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5a53852958e49.png 381w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5a53852958e49-159x300.png 159w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the summit we were lucky to get the small summit shelter to ourselves so we set up the station there with the aerial poking out over the top, much to the amusement of passers by who thought we were watching TV in there.
