another go at the route, slightly less ambitious this time.\u00a0 Having already activated Mynydd Mawr in May we chopped that one off the start and also skipped the couple of two pointers at the end to shorten the trip down to a manageable two days.<\/p>\n<p id=\"VlrXlop\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-722\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d31867c0e48a.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"973\" height=\"731\" (max-width: 973px) 100vw, 973px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-024, Trum y Ddysgl \u2013 709m, 6 points<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-723\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5772-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>Arriving at the Rhyd Ddu car park at about 7:30 pm we set off for our first night, camping below the impressive Y Garn crags.\u00a0 Note that the car park (SH 570 525) only allows you to buy tickets to cover the rest of the day, there is no multi-day or overnight option available.\u00a0 We bought three tickets for Friday and wrote on two of them \u201cSat\u201d and \u201cSun\u201d and displayed all three.\u00a0 A bit of a clue for any would be car thieves but we never had any problem with them or with the warden so it worked for us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-725\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5775-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is a good footpath linking the car park to the B4418 which we followed up past the reservoir\u00a0 to Bwlchgylfin.\u00a0\u00a0There is a stile of sorts here which will get you onto the access land and the end of the easy walking for now.\u00a0 Follow sheep trails and whatever you can find to work your way up and over the Clogwyn y Barcut ridge.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-726\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5777-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5777-150x150-1.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5777-150x150-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>There is no stile over the wall top but it\u2019s not difficult to climb.\u00a0 Once over the wall there is a path of sorts that will take you down into the Afon Tal-y-mignedd valley.\u00a0 This is where we set up camp for the night with a plentiful supply of fresh water flowing.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1204\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1204\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-727\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5780-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Camp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From camp we continued SW to pick up the ridge above Craig Trum y Ddysgl.\u00a0 There is no path we could find until near the top.\u00a0 It is a gruesome slog up the slope through thick undergrowth, mostly heather with fortunately very little gorse.\u00a0 \u00a0As you near the top it will thin out to a pleasant round grassy summit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1205\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1205\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-728\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5784-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trum y Ddysgl summit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We set up the station on the summit and soon made seven contacts using my two element yagi.\u00a0 I was especially pleased with the last contact which was with Ken, G1NCG, just south of Swindon near our home town.\u00a0 This was a distance of around 150 miles.\u00a0 We were also glad to finally qualify this summit after failing on our last attempt due to bad weather.<\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-024 Log<\/h3>\n<p id=\"hLHCSum\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-729\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d3190cb16f26.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d3190cb16f26.png 510w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d3190cb16f26-300x92.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-020, Craig Cwm Silyn \u2013 734m, 6 points<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-730\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5787-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>The walk from Trum y Ddysgl to Craig Cwm Silyn was probably the highlight of the day.\u00a0 Even though it was mostly in cloud it was quite dramatic with some lovely ridge walking along reasonable paths.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-731\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5793-e1563530739334-169x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/>There is an interesting obelisk half way between the two summits at Mynydd Tal-y-mignedd. This was apparently put up to commemorate Queen Victoria\u2019s Diamond Jubilee.<\/p>\n<p>As you approach Craig Cwm Silyn there is an interesting section of crags at Craig Pennant.\u00a0 This is almost a grade one scramble and makes a nice distraction on the ascent but is easily climbed with a bit of care.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-732\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5801-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>On reaching the summit of Craig Cwm Silyn you will be pleased to find a summit shelter complete with built in furniture to sit on.<\/p>\n<p>We set up the station in the shelter, I again used the two element yagi and were soon rewarded with five contacts in the log.<\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-020 Log<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ThhbXzQ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-733\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d319875f3cb6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"122\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d319875f3cb6.png 508w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d319875f3cb6-300x72.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-014, Moel Hebog \u2013 783m, 6 points<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1213\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1213\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-734\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5803-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The route we took down off Craig Cwm Silyn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the pleasures of walking from Trum y Ddysgl to Craig Cwm Silyn, the route we took from Craig Cwm Silyn to Moel Hebog was hard work but had it\u2019s own rewards.<\/p>\n<p>We chose to drop off to the SE following a wall down near the ridge line.\u00a0 In the cloud this involved some carefull navigation but once the wall was found it was easy enough to follow down until we reached the lower sections which are very steep on a loose surface.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-735\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5804-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With hindsight this was perhaps not the best option to descend and next time I will probably try and find a high route back around past the Obelisk.\u00a0 Once down though there is a pleasant picnic area at the end of the road at SH 540 492 where we had lunch.\u00a0 From here there is a <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-736\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5805-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/>navigationally challenging section until you pick up the old inclines leading to the disused quarry.<\/p>\n<p>The quarry must have been a scene of intense activity in the past but slowly nature is taming it and restoring the ugly industrial past <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-737\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5806-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5806-150x150-1.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5806-150x150-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>back to something more pleasant to walk through.\u00a0 I am sure there is a lot of history encapsulated in this small valley.\u00a0\u00a0Passing out of the quarry and on up the Bwalch Cwm-trwsgl there is a good path now all the way to the top of Moel Hebog.\u00a0 There is a spring just before you ascend Craig Cwm-trwsgl.\u00a0 If you are short of water it would be wise to fill up here as there is nothing on the top until you descend from Hebog on the other side.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1217\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" summits on the left..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the summit of Moel Hebog we set up the stations and soon had eight contacts in the log using the yagi once again.<\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-014 Log<\/h3>\n<p id=\"jFTxldI\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-740\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d31a057696d1.png\" Beddgelert to the NE .\u00a0 It\u2019s a bit craggy in places but perfectly passable.\u00a0 We chose to spend the night near an old settlement beside the Afon Glochig to the North of the path before descending into Beddgelert in the morning.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1222\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1222\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-742\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5823-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1222\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beddgelert<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1223\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1223\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-743\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5828-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1223\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The route down with Snowdon still in the cloud in the distance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Turn left under the railway as you enter the village, this path will take you to the main A4085 where you will turn left again heading NW out of the village.\u00a0 430m along the road there is a track on the right heading N for 150m to pick up the footpath.\u00a0 Here the track continues clearly in the direction you want, but it is signposted informing that it\u2019s not a public footpath so we turned E on the RoW then found an unmarked path leading up and onto the access land.\u00a0 From here it\u2019s a slog through undergrowth until the original track is regained.\u00a0 Follow the track to the end and then navigate on a bearing until reaching the slope of Yr Aran.\u00a0 Enjoy the view of the nice footpath back down in the distance if it\u2019s a clear day!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1224\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1224\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-744\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_5829-300x169-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yr Aran summit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The final push up onto the top of Yr Aran makes a nice change with a good path to follow.<\/p>\n<p>At the top we set up the stations, this time I decided to use the MFJ LongRanger antenna as I had carried it all weekend.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t take long to put five entries in the log, including a S2S into Northern Ireland which was a nice bonus.<\/p>\n<h3>GW\/NW-019 Log<\/h3>\n<p id=\"mqPjTpT\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-745\" src=\"http:\/\/www.m1cje.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_5d31c4a8d64b4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"121\"
